Spending a holiday in a new place is always interesting, even more so when the destination is ideal to relax and unwind; such as Batukaras. Travelling from Jakarta requires a 9 – 10 hour drive or alternatively a 1 hour and 5 minute plane flight to Pangandaran Airport which is situated at Cijulang. The airport is closer to Batu Karas than it is to Pangandaran Beach. - Batu Karas Beach
This brown sand beach is the main attraction in Batu Karas because it is safe for swimming and known to be one of the best surfing spots in Indonesia for learning to surf. This area is called Legok Pari. There is a second area called The Reef surf break which is situated approximately 1000 meters away and it has a rock bottom that is best surfed on a medium to full tide and breaks best beween November and May!
Batukaras is also the place to enjoy other types of water sports including fishing, body rafting, banana boat rides and even Kayaking
- Green Canyon
Travel by boat through the dense forest along the greenish brackish river. In parts of the river the banks are surounded by tall cliffs, and in a certain area there is a 3 meter soil bridge above the river! The boat travels along the narrow route between the cliffs; whereby you can see the spectacular scenery which one cannot find elsewhere
- Pananjung Nature Reserve
Another polular destination nearby to Batukaras is the Pananjung Nature Reserve. The forest is 50-60 years old filled with a variety of floras and faunas. Many wild animals are living in the area such as the long-tailed macaques, deer, bull, colugo, hornbill, and langur.
Besides the nature tourist destination, there are many local warungs selling traditional Sundanese food dishes, often blended with natural herbs and spices. One can also observe the culture of the local fisherman. This wide variety of attractions helps make the area one of the best tourist destinations in West Java.
